Bay City lost a lot of character on December 10, 2012 when LaVern "Max" Boman cashed in his chips. Max was born on March 26, 1935 to LaVern and Virginia Boman. He spent much of his childhood in Detroit. In the 1940's, Max and his family moved to the Gladwin area and established the Tittabawassee Resort, a hunting camp on the Tittabawassee River, now known as the Lost Arrow Resort.
